Combined Offering - Connect the IoT platform to the production floor

Takebishi’s powerful DeviceGateway can communicate with over 320 devices from over 80 manufacturers, allowing unified data monitoring and analysis even for complex systems with machinery from various manufacturers. A Secure MQTT communication ensures a stable transfer of data from production equipment to the cloud, centralizing device management as well as incorporating event and buffering functions as an edge solution. By aggregating machine data, DeviceGateway also plays the role of UNS (Unified Name Space) to organize the data from manufacturing sites.

This combined solution is achieved by integrating DeviceGateway with thin-edge.io and Cumulocity’s OPC UA gateway agent. It is a powerful combination that is simple to set up and maintain without any additional programming for a fraction of the cost. Configuration takes place via web browser, and the system can be managed centrally from Cumulocity.

Architecture

There are two different options to deploy the Device Gateway. The first option uses the DeviceGateway and thin-edge on your Linux device gateway of choice. Takebishi’s DeviceGateway connects with machines on the shopfloor via any of its supported protocols. Thin-edge - a robust and lightweight framework - is maintained by Cumulocity and serves as an interface between the Device Gateway and Cumulocity. Thin-edge uses the bridge of the MQTT broker to forward the data to Cumulocity via MQTT. The configuration of the data points sent to the cloud are manageable from the cloud. Some device management features additionally rely on the HTTPS interaction with Cumulocity’s RestAPI.

The second option enables the same functionality, but uses Cumulocity Thick-Edge, which is installed on premise instead of being hosted on Cloud Infrastructure.
