Utilizing Zabbix in Manufacturing

In the manufacturing industry, data utilization and remote monitoring are made difficult by the seperation of on-site control devices (OT) and IT systems.By connecting with Takebishi DeviceXPlorer OPC Server and DeviceGateway, data from PLCs, FA devices, and sensors operating at manufacturing sites can be visualized and stored in Zabbix. This facilitates long-term understanding of operational status, alarm configuration, and other high-level centralized monitoring of IT/OT systems.   

About Zabbix

Zabbix is an open source software that facilitates centralized monitoring of IT resources such as network devices, servers, clouds, and applications. Supporting a wide range of platforms such as Linux / Windows / Commercial UNIX / and SNMP supported networks, data from each resource can be collected and stored, and real-time fault alerts and notifications can be configured. Its scalability and flexible functionality have made it the standard OSS monitoring tool in production in Japan, with recognition from customers around the globe.

Zabbix Interconnectivity with DeviceXPlorer OPC Server and DeviceGateway

By integrating Zabbix with the DeviceXPlorer OPC Server or DeviceGateway, you can visualize and store data from control devices and robots on the manufacturing floor, enabling advanced IT monitoring methods such as long-term operational status monitoring and alert notifications.

The following configuration enables both "on-site data storage and visualization" using Zabbix and "status monitoring of the DeviceXPlorer OPC Server or DeviceGateway."

- Data integration via MQTT/HTTP POST: Sensor data collected from PLCs is sent to Zabbix via the DeviceXPlorer OPC Server or DeviceGateway via MQTT and HTTP POST protocols.

- Status monitoring of the DeviceXPlorer OPC Server (PC) and DeviceGateway via SNMP: The status of the PC running the DeviceXPlorer OPC Server or DeviceGateway is collected via SNMP, allowing continuous monitoring of its operating status.

Zabbix can be easily linked with DeviceXPlorer OPC Server or DeviceGateway with just a simple configuration, allowing for quick implementation regardless of the age or manufacturer of the equipment.

Conclusion

Combining data from IT systems and OT is extremely important in promoting digital transformation across an entire company. By using the combined solution of DeviceXPlorer OPC Server or DeviceGateway and Zabbix, previously separate IT/OT data can be integrated, enabling visualization and optimization across the entire company.
